Technique – Dies as Stencils/Masks

Die cut masking is a great way to mask your images without having to fussy cut. It can also add a soft background or image to your cards and projects.

For this creation I used … The Birds & Branches Bundle, Pretty Peacock Scalloped Ribbon, ink and card stock, Crumb Cake ink and card stock, Early Espresso ink, Shimmery White card stock, sponges, masking tape, and post-it notes.

First I made my masks
Taking the nest die and a couple of sheets of post-it notes. Line the die up over the sticky part of the post-it note and cut out. It is just as easy to cut out a couple as it is one giving you some spare masks.
Stamp the birds nest on your card stock and cover with the nest mask before stamping the birds and eggs. This will make it look like the birds are in the nest.

Tear a strip of masking tape the length of the die. NOTE: You will want to stick it to something first to help remove some of the tackiness before placing on your cutting mat. I either stick to it my clothing or arm.
Now die cut your image from the masking tape. Carefully remove it, you may need a paper piercer to help remove it.
Place the mask onto your card stock and carefully sponge over the mask.
Once you are happy with the colour you can remove your mask.

All that is left now is to put the card together. I cut out a couple more images from the die set and used the large circle die from the layering circle die to cut out my stamped image. Raised them up with some dimensionals and voila!! Hope you have been inspired.
